Field journal & site log — provenance, in-situ notes, and the day's find, one meadow at a time.

Fourteen eggs this week, three on a single stem — the most I've counted on one plant all season. Provenance noted: common milkweed, south-facing bed, full sun. Something about this particular patch keeps outperforming the rest of the waystation, and I don't yet know why.
In situ, on swamp milkweed near the north fence line. Took longer to find this year — a cooler June likely pushed the whole cohort back about a week compared to last year's log.
Six tagged and released before noon, all healthy fifth-instars raised from eggs collected three weeks back. Full assemblage logged in The Ledger.
